Electrics for Caravan, Campervan, Motorhome
The on-board battery is the center
The on-board battery, is the center of a vehicle electrics in the motorhome or campervan. AGM batteries are common, but also gel batteries or high-quality lithium batteries come into consideration.
Devices such as lamps, coolboxes, voltage transformer or phone charger
All devices are supplied with 12 volts by the battery and protected by fuses. The battery also serves as storage and provides the appropriate power. Battery sizes of around 100 Ah are sufficient for most devices in campervans. For example, such a battery would be able to supply a compressor coolbox with electricity for approx. 2 days. With a voltage converter, household appliances with 230 volts can be operated via the on-board battery as well.
How is the battery charged?
There are several possibilities for recharging the battery.
Charging while driving: The electricity of the alternator also charges the 2nd battery. For this purpose, it is essential to install a disconnect relay.
Charging with 230 volts: If the motorhome is connected to "shore power", it can be charged with a special charger that turns 230V into 12V.
Charging with solar: A solar system on the vehicle roof always loads when the sun is shining. This ecologic method often finds applications in camping because it is maintenance-free and efficient.
Other charging options: There are other devices that can charge the battery, e.g. a fuel cell or a power generator.
Installation of the electrical system
We offer all the components you need for the installation of an electrical system. Please note, however, that installations should only be done by a specialist. A faulty installation could lead to a cable fire or even cause personal injury.
